Courts Not Merely Resolve Cases

Dirgen of Religious CourtCirebon | badilag.net/english - Courts are urged not only to hear and decide cases but also to execute stipulations regulated by other applying laws, such as Law No. 14/2008 on the Public Information Transparency.

Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, made those statements at an interactive dialogue with chief judges, vice chief judges, judges and registrars from Regional II Cirebon, West Java, on Friday (24/9).

One stipulation of the Law No. 14/2008, Wahyu said, states that a leader of a public institution might be sued and jailed for one year if he or she fails to provide necessary public information that is needed by public.

“Besides that, court officers, especially the leaderships, need to comprehend the contents of Law No. 25/2009 on Public Service, SK KMA (Supreme Court Decision) No. 144/2007 on Information Transparency in Courts, and other important laws,” Wahyu added.

Judges Involvement

According to former Chief Justice Bagir Manan, Wahyu went on, the main duty of a judge is not only resolving cases. Judges should also be positioned as elite thinkers.

As a consequence, judges need to be involved in planning, building and developing courts. “Leadership must inform judges. Don’t let judges at your office unknowledgeable.” he said.

Wahyu also added that judges should be aware of the recent development of information system at their own offices, such as SIADPA (Case Management System), website, and other public services systems.

“I ask chief judges, vice chief judges and registrars to be solid in providing public services. And judges must get involved,” Wahyu concluded. (*Written by Achmad Cholil)
