Two Chairmen of Religious Courts Installed
The Extraordinary Session of
the Inauguration of the Chairman of Bantul Religious Court and the Chairman of Wates Religious Courts

Islamic Court in Indonesia not only survived but in some ways grew stronger, while in other Islamic countries religious legal institutions were being abolished or seriously constructed. Indonesia makes good case example because its legal system is one of the more complicated in the world.
It was said by the Chairman of PTA Yogyakarta, Drs. H. Ahmad Syarhuddin, SH., MH., in his speech after chairing the extraordinary session of the inauguration of the Chairman of Bantul Religious Courts (PA Bantul) and Chairman of Wates Religious Courts (PA Wates), in the hall of PTA Yogyakarta, on Thursday (29/12/11). What the Chairman of PTA Yogyakarta said is a statement of Daniel S. Lev in his book "Islamic Courts in Indonesia". The book was published before the enactment of Law No. 1/1974 on marriage did not merely admit the existence of Religious Courts, moreover it predicted the development of Religious Courts that has been proved and can be seen up to now.
According to the Chairman of High Religious Court of Yogyakarta (PTA Yogyakarta), the development of Religious Court is not apart from the role of religious scholars or ulamas as the figures and leaders of society who actively fighted for the Religious Courts. Their Persistency and spirit in defending the existence of religious courts since the Dutch colonialism period and developing it in the independence era, according to him should always be indwelt until now.
Daniel S. Lev's writing about the existence phenomenon of the Religious Courts was conveyed by the Chairman of PTA Yogyakarta to give inspiration and motivation to the both newly inaugurated Chairmen of Religious Courts. He reminded that beside managerial skills, there are many things that support the success of leadership as the religious court officials who run state power in the law enforcement.
"The leaders of religious courts should have a soul and spirit to build religious courts which is imbued by the ideals of previous leaders and the traditions of islamic students who are humble and shy away from the behavior of hedonism," expected the Chairman of PTA.
Confirming what was said when submitting the promotion and mutation decrees, the Chairman of PTA Yogyakarta urged the leaders as the officials of religious courts, particularly within the jurisdiction of PTA Yogyakarta, to always give priority to services and to be model to his subordinates, as well as to elude the paradigm of demand to be always served.

Furthermore, the Chairman of PTA Yogyakarta congratulated H. M. Badawi, SH., MSI, and Drs. H. Kholiq, SH., MH on the inauguration respectively as the Chairman of Bantul Religious Court and Wates Religious Court. He also expressed thanks to the both of Religious Courts' chairmen for their loyalty in developing religious courts within the jurisdiction of PTA Yogyakarta in the previous positions.
H. M. Badawi was previously the Chairman of Wates Religious Court Class II, and H. Kholiq was the Vice Chairman of Bantul Religious Court class IB. Drs. H. Badawi as the new Chairman of the Bantul Religious Court will occupy the void of leadership seat of the first number person of Bantul Religious Court replacing Drs. Jasiruddin, SH., MSI whom was promoted as the Chairman of Semarang Religious Court at the end 2010.
The inauguration event run solemnly. Beside taking the oath, the two new chairmen also signed the integrity facts as the chairmen of Religious Courts and performed the handover and receive of the Chairman position of PA Wates before the Chairman of PTA Yogyakarta. The extraordinary session event was attended by all high judges of PTA Yogyakarta, Vice Chairmen and Registrars/ Secretaries of the Religious Courts within the jurisdiction of PTA Yogyakarta. The event was then closed by reading prayer by the High Judge of PTA Yoyakarta, Drs. H. Ahmad, SH., MH.
